The ezine is dead: Long live the blog!

I’ve been publishing the Plugs ‘n Pixels PDF ezine since 2005 as a companion piece to the main website. The focus of the ezine has been on Photoshop-compatible plug-ins and other digital imaging applications. It’s been a labor of love, an exercise in graphic design and a creative outlet.

But it’s so much work for one person! Subscribers might have wondered over the years why the new issues don’t come out more often. The fact that I purposely don’t use publishing design templates plays a role in the delay. That, and pulling such a thing together involves both sides of the brain: The right for doing all the artwork and design and the left for writing the copy. It’s quite a workout to get through the designated 20 pages!

Oh, and did I mention the ezine has always been free, with no paid subscriptions or paid advertising?

Then there’s the nagging concern that today’s audience mainly gets their information on the web, not from hyperlinked PDFs (which might be considered but a mere step up from old-school print magazines). So, at this point I have decided to (finally!) join the masses of bloggers and offer the content formerly presented in the ezines in this more popular manner. It’s going to be easier to do, more timely, more relevant and more accessible.

I’ll leave the 26 ezine PDF back issues online for your enjoyment. Grab them all as a .zip file.
