Today I spent some time playing with the latest update to Adjust AI (version 1.0.3).
As always, I start with more than decade-old examples from low-res digital cameras because they need the most help. Despite their technical shortcomings, they are great to use as platforms for additional corrective (and especially creative) post-processing.
We first go back to 2007 for a visit to Mission San Juan Capistrano, with a Minolta DiMAGE S404 in hand… Here’s a photo of the archways and walkway as shown before-and-after treatment in Adjust. I chose to pop Clarity and Detail just a bit, while adding a touch of saturation for warmth. Note the overall effect and the HDR-like recovery of the shadow areas:
Taking an opposite approach, I simply pulled down the Color>Saturation slider to turn the processed version into a turn-of-the-century view:
The lighting in California can be challenging, especially during the peak daylight hours. Working off an original JPEG shot at the Mission (not even a RAW!), I was able to use Adjust AI to recover the majority of the details lost to the deep shadows:
Before we leave the Mission, let’s look at one more set of Adjust AI before-and-afters:
Remember that you can achieve the detail-pop without the added saturation if you wish, though sometimes they work well together if used with restraint ;-).

On that same SoCal trip, we head down to my beach mansion (right!) in San Clemente CA, armed with the same Minolta DiMAGE S404. Instead of harsh sunlight we have blah coastal fog (original image):
Using a combination of manual settings in Adjust AI, I purposely pushed the result into the realm of “art”, in this case to invoke the style of an old hand-colored postcard:
Now we drag a Canon DSLR RAW image into Adjust AI to add some life to a flat capture of a marble carving in Claremont CA. Achieving this result mainly relied on increasing Clarity>Micro while leaving pretty much everything else alone. An option (not shown) was to bring Contrast into negative numbers to cool down the result, but I like the warmth here:
