Photo RAW 2025 really shines when it comes to creative enhancements. Here are a couple examples I just did using two of my boring 1990s scenics (from 35mm negative scans). The first is a water scene somewhere between Seattle and Vancouver Island. The original, reduced:
Not horrible, a peaceful sunset, a bit grainy. Once loaded into Photo RAW, for the sake of illustration I went to town on the Presets and Effects filters, with the main change being a sky replacement (a favorite feature of mine in this app because many of my old photos really need this):
This is a dull, overcast view of the Mississippi River near Vicksburg:
Rather than go for the over-bright reinterpretation of the first image, for this image I chose a more subdued vibe, in keeping with the Civil War history of this area. Again, I began with noise reduction and a sky replacement before trying different presets:
With so many effects on hand it’s hard not to leave well enough alone, so I kept going with additional manually-adjusted filters, as shown in the Effects list:
Photo RAW is my first choice for adding creative effects to my many poor quality archive images. It’s easy to spend hours trying different approaches and effects, Quick-Saving each variation for later review.
