Not a problem! Let&#8217;s run it through <strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/topazlabs.com\/gigapixel-ai\/ref\/5\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gigapixel AI<\/a><\/strong>! For my purposes at Fine Art America I don&#8217;t need much above 4000 pixels wide, so a 2X enlargement is sufficient (the original was 2592 pixels max).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can see two things happening already in this 100% view in Gigapixel (<em>open in a new window to view full size<\/em>): Reduced noise and recovered\/sharpened details:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1724\" height=\"989\" src=\"https:\/\/plugsandpixels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/faass1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2447\" srcset=\"https:\/\/plugsandpixels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/faass1.jpg 1724w, https:\/\/plugsandpixels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/faass1-768x441.jpg 768w, https:\/\/plugsandpixels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/faass1-1536x881.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1724px) 100vw, 1724px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s almost good enough right there, but I&#8217;ve discovered if I proceed with a trip through <strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/topazlabs.com\/shop\/ref\/5\/\" target=\"_blank\">Topaz Studio 2<\/a><\/strong>, I can not only pop the image further, but add artistic treatments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, in Studio 2 I chose the <strong>AI Clear<\/strong> Filter option. Like Gigapixel, it also has noise reduction and image clarification properties:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"313\" height=\"458\" src=\"https:\/\/plugsandpixels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/faass2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2449\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s the enlarged image with some AI Clear &#8220;pop&#8221; applied, viewed at 21% (Fit):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1580\" height=\"970\" src=\"https:\/\/plugsandpixels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/faass3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/plugsandpixels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/faass3.jpg 1580w, https:\/\/plugsandpixels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/faass3-768x471.jpg 768w, https:\/\/plugsandpixels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/faass3-1536x943.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1580px) 100vw, 1580px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Since I am using Topaz Studio 2 as a Photoshop plug-in, the image is returned back for editing there. I took this opportunity to straighten out my seemingly always crooked captures before proceeding:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1794\" height=\"1038\" src=\"https:\/\/plugsandpixels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/faass4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2451\" srcset=\"https:\/\/plugsandpixels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/faass4.jpg 1794w, https:\/\/plugsandpixels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/faass4-768x444.jpg 768w, https:\/\/plugsandpixels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/faass4-1536x889.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1794px) 100vw, 1794px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Back in Topaz Studio 2, I explored adding Looks to make this image a little less dull. Here is the result of the &#8220;Dingy Cream&#8221; preset, one of <em>many<\/em> creative options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1581\" height=\"966\" src=\"https:\/\/plugsandpixels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/faass5.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2453\" srcset=\"https:\/\/plugsandpixels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/faass5.jpg 1581w, https:\/\/plugsandpixels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/faass5-768x469.jpg 768w, https:\/\/plugsandpixels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/faass5-1536x939.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1581px) 100vw, 1581px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>When adding artsy you enter very subjective territory, and what &#8220;looks good&#8221; depends on YOU and also what you are trying to say with the effect, as well as what you need to use the image for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You might even choose to emulate traditional painting effects using the Impression Filter:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1584\" height=\"969\" src=\"https:\/\/plugsandpixels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/faass6.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2463\" srcset=\"https:\/\/plugsandpixels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/faass6.jpg 1584w, https:\/\/plugsandpixels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/faass6-768x470.jpg 768w, https:\/\/plugsandpixels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/faass6-1536x940.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1584px) 100vw, 1584px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>I ended up choosing this reddish preset effect (&#8220;Blazing Sunspot&#8221;) for my <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/fineartamerica.com\/featured\/quiet-day-at-the-beach-mike-bedford.html\" target=\"_blank\">final Fine Art America version<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"864\" height=\"636\" src=\"https:\/\/plugsandpixels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/faafinalart.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2455\" srcset=\"https:\/\/plugsandpixels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/faafinalart.jpg 864w, https:\/\/plugsandpixels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/faafinalart-768x565.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 864px) 100vw, 864px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>So don&#8217;t give up on your old photos, regardless of the original quality!
