In about a month we will see the release of the new Radiant Photo<\/a><\/strong> app and plug-in, based on the latest Perfectly Clear<\/strong> technology and designed by a group of photographers including Elia Locardi and Richard Harrington.<\/p>\n\n\n

Radiant Photo<\/strong> is to be provided fairly and without gimmicks, enabling you to use AI to immediately get your photos 90% of the way to a perfect look without further interaction. Upon loading an image, the type of scene is detected and smart presets are applied in seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For further editing, a large selection of controls are provided for tone, color and details with additional tools for adding graduated filters, portrait editing, color grading and other fine-tuning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are some screenshots (open in new window to view at 100%)<\/em> using both JPEG and CR2 RAW image sources in Quick Edit mode<\/strong>. The greatly improved results appeared in seconds, and nothing further was done by hand:<\/p>\n\n\n

Can you achieve results similar to this by hand in your favorite image editing app? Of course you can! But I see at least three drawbacks with this approach:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1) You must own Photoshop or another dedicated image editor<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2) Working by hand takes way<\/em> more time, effort and skill per image<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3) You couldn’t batch process a stack of images as the needed fixes are unique per image, while Radiant Photo<\/a><\/strong> blazes through its queue of images, treating each one independently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So let’s say you don’t mind getting your hands dirty and have what it takes to do the manual edits. The Quick Edit results as shown above can be considered your starting point for Detailed Edit<\/strong> mode (we’ll discuss this mode in more detail in future posts):<\/p>\n\n\n
