New World Digital Art contest winners (Terragen)

For a long time I’ve been intrigued by the ability to create incredible digital scenery from your desk using only software (the “arrive without traveling” concept). Digital artists, mainly in the entertainment and advertising industries, use high-end software to create environments that either do not exist or are too difficult to capture traditionally.

My friends at New World Digital Art run a yearly contest for users of Planetside’s Terragen, and Plugs ‘N Pixels is one of the sponsors. The winners of the current contest (“Cliff”) were just posted.

1st Place: Mick Hazelgrove

The rules for this purist challenge were: “Using only Terragen functionality, contestants were to create a Cliff View of their choosing with the highest level of Photo-realism as their goal. No 3rd party Terrain or displacement generators were permitted.”

Check out the larger views of all of the final renders at NWDA’s website, and prepare to be amazed at what can be done with Terragen!
